What is Karndean flooring?

Karndean flooring is a vinyl flooring product made primarily from calcium carbonate (limestone), polyvinyl chloride and pigments. It is structured with five layers – two PVC backing layers, one high definition photographic layer, one clear PVC embossed wear layer and a top polyurethane (PU) protective coating.  It is commonly called an LVT a laminate vinyl tile.  Karndean can be installed in many design options, available in wood plank lengths or tiles of different shapes.  It can be installed with a border or with a design strip for something different.   As a Platinum Karndean retailer, Floor Coverings has the entire range on display.

Is Karndean flooring waterproof?

Yes – all Karndean floors, no matter which design you choose is 100% waterproof which is why Karndean is an ideal choice for bathrooms and kitchens.

Can Karndean flooring be used in bathrooms?

Yes, as Karndean is 100% waterproof it is a suitable choice to use in bathrooms, toilets and en-suites; along with utility rooms and kitchens.

Can Karndean flooring be used on stairs?

Yes, Karndean flooring can be installed on stairs, as long as the correct nosings are used.

Is Karndean flooring scratch-proof?

Karndean is scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof. However, minor scratches can be corrected by using the Karndean cleaning products and major scratches can be rectified by removing and replacing the damaged tiles.  All Karndean floors are finished with Karndean’s K-Guard+ protective coating which helps against day-to-day wear.  Each Karndean floor when installed by a Karndean trained installer comes with a lifetime guarantee.  All Floor Coverings’ fitters are Karndean trained.

Can Karndean flooring be steam cleaned?

No, we don’t recommend you use a steam cleaner on a Karndean floor as it may loosen the glue.  You can use a vacuum cleaner and we would recommend a suction-only hoover. We recommend that you only use Karndean approved cleaning products which are available to purchase from Floor Coverings.   

Can you hoover Karndean flooring?

Yes we recommend you use a suction only type of hoover such as a Henry hoover alongside Karndean approved cleaning products which are available to purchase from Floor Coverings.

How is Karndean flooring laid?

Karndean offer both glue and click-fit options.  Karndean is available in three types of product: gluedown, loose lay and rigid core.  Each for a different room requirement.  Gluedown is used when you want to create your floor with different laying patterns, design strips and decorative borders and you have a completely flat, dry subfloor prepared by a flooring professional (us).   Loose lay is recommended when you want to reduce noise transfer such as in loft conversions or upstairs rooms. Rigid core can be used when you want superior acoustics such as in loft conversions or upstairs rooms and you want to install over an existing floor. Karndean flooring should be installed by Karndean trained fitters.  Here at Floor Coverings our fitters have all received Karndean installation training, and when fitted by a Karndean approved fitter (us), the flooring comes with a lifetime guarantee.
